Linda McManus Images is a collection of my wide-ranging artwork. I was trained in black and white fine art photography, which remains my first love. I am still momentarily breathless every time I see a Brassai image. My work has evolved to say the least and and now includes other styles and techniques.
Early on I found myself dissatisfied with just the straight photograph. While I do love photography as a single breathtaking image, I have always found myself wanting more. Subsequently, I would spend hours in the darkroom trying to burn here, dodge there, sandwich negatives together to create a unique look. I was mostly happy with the result, but it wasn’t always exactly what I had intended. So needless to say, when the “digital” world began, for me it all began. My creativity was unleashed and I finally had a way to create the images I saw in my head. Much different from the darkroom, they actually looked like what I had envisioned!
So after creating many photographic, digital and illustrative images the question arose, “Now what?” Well, serendipitously at the same time I found an ad for a greeting card designer, and then the proverbial light bulb went off. I created a series of images and submitted them for the position and was turned down. BUT, I submitted them to other companies and received my first licensing deal with Oatmeal Studios! It was an Illustration of a woman on the beach under a palm tree holding a coconut drink, the verb-age read, “Wishing you the three R’s”...... Rest, Relaxation, and Ricardo the Cabana Boy”. From then, I continued to create and submit to other companies and “Linda McManus Images” was born.
I often work on several series at one time using varied techniques. My aim is to fill the marketplace with whatever images it needs and having many to choose from broadens my reach. And to be totally honest, I can’t creatively hone in on one type of imagery. I have tried and always find myself dancing between the camera, the sketch pad and the computer; then again, sometimes putting them all in a blender to catch a glimpse of what may come out.
I have licensed my images to some of the top greeting card companies, which in turn were sold at Target stores, Carlton Cards and Wegmans to name a few. I have recently crossed over into the home décor world, creating a series of cat images for a company that sells to catalog companies such as Country House and most recently have added Boscov’s to my list of “Where to find”.
In tandem with the licensing, I manufacture my own greeting and note cards to sell wholesale to area stores, and plan on expanding to a broader customer base. My goal is to have my images applied to many products crossing all markets, creating some inspiration and smiles.
